I started brewing beer in 1992 after getting a basic starter kit for Christmas. My first beer was an attempeted steam beer. It got a bacterial infection and had to be dumped. The second went much better, and got me hooked. Since then I've brewed aboout 80 batches of beer and mead, and branched into wine making last year.
Over the years I've entered a bunch of competitions, and even managed to win a few awards
The inventory in my brewhouse is always changing. Click here to see what I have in progress.
I am involved with several brewing related organizations. I am a member of the American Homebrewers Association. I also belong to the Maltose Falcons Homebrewing Society. I am a beer judge, certified by the Beer Judge Certification Program. Within the SCA, I am part of the Right Noble Brewer's Guild of the Kingdom of Caid.
Because of my experiences in brewing, I have become a bit of a beer snob. To see what brews I like these days, click here.
Upcoming features on this page are: photos, plans, and descriptions of my brewing gear, and some of my more successful recipes.
Last September I taught a class at the SCA collegium. We spent an hour each on the four basic beer ingredients - water, grain, hops, and yeast. Because I waited until the last minute to finish the class notes, I didn't have handouts ready, and promised to post the notes here. Well, I finally have and they're right here.
